Conceived as a joint venture by three New York surfers in need of a tropical getaway, the house is affectionately nicknamed “Little Malibu” after a local surf break. Little Malibu incorporates a green roof and passive cooling strategies, leading the vision for the Dos Ceibas neighborhood. Circulation occurs at the building edges, along covered outdoor spaces, encouraging the flow between inside and outside, and celebrating the lush island climate.
Using offcuts from the Ipe decking that was used on the solar shading system, we designed and fabricated a furniture system using a repetitive frame to produce interior and exterior seating.
